    Your animal

    This matters more than anything else. It sets how far they go.
    This is the single biggest predictor of how far a cat goes. An indoor cat that slips out behaves nothing like one that roams.
    A horse that walked out a gate is usually close. One that bolted can be miles.
    Horses go to other horses.
